Chronic Pain

Pain that has lasted longer then expected for your injuries healing time can be categorized as chronic. Chronic pain can be devastating and interfere with all aspects of your life. Exercise is a very important part of dealing with chronic pain, but it is equally as important to do it properly and within your bodies tolerance and abilities. Patients that suffer from chronic pain have great success with a properly planned exercise program that is carefully observed and monitored by a physical therapist.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

CTS usually causes pain and or tingling into the wrist and hand. It is caused by repetitive motions and is a nerve impingement or entrapment. Treatment can include stretching, nerve gliding, and education in work set-up to reduce stress place upon the wrist and hand.

Cardiac Rehab

Stage II and III, We can help you to learn to properly monitor and regulate your heart rate and blood pressure with exercise. We will develop an individually based program that keeps you safe and allows all the benefits of exercise using a rate of perceived exertion scale. You can lift weights and improve your endurance.

Car Accident Injuries

Motor Vehicle accidents can cause many injuries to occur. You may experience neck or back pain, whiplash, fractures, or soft tissue injuries. It is important to seek PT in order to decrease your pain and increase your mobility through manual therapy techniques, also to strengthen and re-train your muscles with specific exercises to get you back to full function as quickly as possible.

Balance Training

Balance is made up of 3 systems: what your feet feel on the ground (somatosensory), what your eyes tell your brain (visual), and what your inner ear inputs to your brain (vestibular). One or more of these systems being disrupted can cause loss of balance and falls. PT can help to train your muscles to increase stability around joints and improve your proprioception and balance reactions in order to allow you to continue with your daily activities without being fearful of falling. Strength and flexibility help to improve your balance and a PT can educate you on safety and proper modifications if needed.

Back Pain – Pregnancy

As your body changes during pregnancy your hormones also change with increased relaxin that can cause some joint instability issues and muscle spasms or guarding that can increase your low back pain. Also as the baby grows yoru back muscles have to work overtime to support the additional weight. PT can help to maintain proper alignment, decrease muscle spasms or tone, and decrease pain. Post baby low back pain can also be addressed including instruction and education in body mechanics and lifting strategies to help you accommodate to the new addition and return to a safe exercise program. C-section patients also need to re-learn how to use their abdominal muscles properly in order to protect and reduce low back pain.

Bursitis

Bursitis is the inflammation of the fluid filled cushion or sack that is located near or in the joint. Most commonly found at the hip, bursitis can cause swelling and discomfort in surrounding joints and muscles. Body mechanics, stretching, and balanced strength are all important to allow this inflammation to resolve and to be able to restore your normal function without pain.
